Two More Mac Trojans Discovered, But Don’t Panic - baileycoluch

Pursuing the outbreak of the Flashback Mac Metropolis, security researchers have blemished two more cases of Mac OS X malware. The good news is all but users have little reason to worry about them.

Some cases are variants on the same Trojan, named SabPub, Kaspersky Lab Expert Costin Raiu wrote on Securelist.

The first variant is glorious as Back entrance.OSX.SabPub.a. Like Flashback, this new terror was likely spread through Java exploits happening Websites, and allows for remote of stilted systems. It was created roughly one calendar month ago.

Fortunately, this malware isn't a terror to most users for a few reasons: It may have only been victimized in targeted attacks, Raiu wrote, with golf links to malicious Websites sent via e-mail, and the domain used to fetch instructions for infected Macs has since been shut down.

What is more, Apple's security update for Flashback helps picture future Java-supported attacks harmless. In addition to removing the Flashback malware, the update automatically deactivates the Java browser plug-in and Java Net Start if they remain unused for 35 years. Users must then manually re-enable Java when they see applets on a Web page operating room a Web Start application.

The second SabPub variant is old-school compared to its sib. Instead of attacking through malicious Websites, it uses contaminated Microsoft Word documents As transmitter, apportioned aside electronic mail.

Like the some other SabPub edition, this one and only was used alone in targeted attacks, possibly against Asian nation activists. So unless you're working with a affirmative-Tibet organization–and you rich person a substance abuse of inaugural suspicious Word documents–there's little reason for alarm. At most, SabPub is more than evidence that Macs aren't immune to attacks—a point that Flashback already made perfectly clear.
